Forty Oaks Nature Preserve

Forty Oaks is one of the most visually textured locations in the Clarkston area. This 10-acre urban greenspace centers around the Historic Sutton Farmhouse (AKA Forty Oaks Farmhouse), a rare surviving 19th-century structure that remains in a “pre-restoration” state. For scouts, this offers an authentic “diamond in the rough” or “haunted/abandoned” aesthetic that is difficult to find in more polished parks. Surrounding the home is a diverse landscape of emerging forests, rugged trails, and a vibrant international community garden.

Clarkston is known as the most diverse square mile in America. Today, half of the city’s residents are foreign-born and hail from over 50 countries across 6 continents. The City proudly proclaims itself as “the Ellis Island of the South,” and the railroad still runs through Clarkston today.

• The “Forty Oaks” Canopy: True to its name, the preserve features impressive mature oak specimens and a dense, 10-acre forest. The trails are narrow and winding, perfect for scenes requiring a sense of being “lost” in the woods or for chase sequences in a controlled environment.
• Rugged Terrain: Unlike the manicured lawns of nearby Milam Park, Forty Oaks feels wild. The secondary growth forest, vines, and natural forest floor provide high-contrast textures for gritty or atmospheric cinematography.

• In-Town Convenience: Situated directly on Market Street, the preserve is highly accessible for Atlanta-based crews while feeling entirely removed from the city once you step ten yards into the tree line.
• Parking & Load-In: There is a dedicated driveway at 3790 Market St leading to an unpaved parking area. This provides a convenient “off-street” footprint for a small basecamp or tech trucks. Additional street parking is available on Market Street for crew overflow.
• Controllable Perimeter: The 10-acre size is large enough to offer diverse angles but small enough for a production to effectively “lock down” for sound and privacy.
• Permitting: Managed by the City of Clarkston in partnership with the Friends of Forty Oaks, the site is film-friendly. The city’s “Camera Ready” status ensures a streamlined application process for this municipal-owned land.
• Proximity to Main Basecamps: Only minutes away from the Clarkston Community Center and the City Hall Annex, making it easy to pair with other local “small town” sets.
